One little secret to building your profile which is so often neglected, especially by the newer coaches, authors and experts, is to build relationships with influencers.
Getting noticed by someone who has lots of people noticing them, can be a step into a bigger paying field for you and your biz.
Today, this is what I’d like you to do:
1. Make a list of 3 people that you want to build a relationship with.
What is your main goal i.e to have a 100k coaching year? to have a best seller? to be on the TED stage? to launch your first high end program?
Who has already achieved these goals? Who do you admire and aspire to be like? Think of a notable key influencer and also think of those who are a few steps ahead of you.
2. Connect
Follow them on social media.
Send them a message telling them how you admire them. (no crawling, just be open and honest).
3. Give Value to them
You can’t receive what you can’t give. So begin your relationship building by giving value to these people. Simple things like:
– sharing their social media content
– commenting on their posts and engaging with them via Social Media.
– simply asking how you can help them out
(when your name pops up it’s a way of being remembered and being front of mind – even with the bigger names)
4. Nurture the Relationship
Stay on the radar. Continue to interact. Attend their events. Introduce yourself when you do because they’ll remember your name if you’ve been an active follower.
Sign up for a program and be their star student.
Once you feel you have a connection going, invite them to your events as a guest.
Nurturing the relationship enables your key influencers to see how wonderful you are. And then who knows???
A short example: My co-author knew Dr John Demartini, Human Behaviour Specialist and asked him to write an endorsement of our book ‘Extraordinary You”. Which he kindly did. Through various emails I built a connection with he and his staff, and then two years later, he asked me to endorse his latest book “The Values Factor”. On launch day this added to my subscriber list very nicely.
The key is to give value over time. Remember, the art of giving is not in the expectation of getting anything back. The reward is building a relationship with someone you truly admire …. and trust me, in some way it will come back to you, maybe in a way you don’t expect.
Now who are those 3 people you are going to connect with today?
I’m getting in touch with Dr D again, another New York Times Best Seller, and a former Miss Universe.
